Fall Referral Window: September 21–October 9, 2026
BISD’s Highly Capable (HC) referrals are welcome during our fall window for students new to our district (since February 19, 2026) in grades 1–11. (Referrals for Kindergarten and currently enrolled BISD students will open during our spring window.)
If you’d like your student considered for HC services, please visit our BISD Highly Capable page for the timeline, program details, and the referral form.
Previously in HC/Gifted elsewhere?
Please complete the BISD referral and email documentation (e.g., assessment scores, grades, placement letters) to Drew Crandall at dcrandall@bisd303.org.
Deadline: Submit the referral (and any supporting documents, if applicable) by end of day Friday, October 9, 2026.

Dear Wildcat families,
It has been a great first few weeks here at WMS! We have enjoyed being back at school with familiar faces and meeting new classmates too! As the ASB President and Vice-President, we would like to inform you of our hopes for this school year. This year we would like to give students the chance to have more involvement all around here at Woodward. We hope this will look like students participating in after school and before school activities, like clubs and sports. We believe that students should participate in these activities to stay connected throughout their journey here at Woodward, and just have fun!

There are a lot of clubs that are starting soon and have started! Make sure to pop in and check what's going on! Here's a list of clubs and what they're about!

BIPOC EMPOWERMENT CLUB: Come join in on Mondays after school 3:30-4:30 in Ms. Grindeland's room (215). This club is a safe environment for people of color or any sort of minority. Even if you're not of color, everyone is welcome!

DRAMA CLUB: Come join every Wednesday for some theatre fun on the stage! From 3:30 to 4:30 after school. You don't need any past theater experience. Our first meeting will be the 30th of September.

BUILDER'S CLUB: Come join us every Thursday morning at 8:20 in Ms. Lin's room (208)! This club does a variety of community projects and services. The club does a variety of clothing and food drives around the school.

CULINARY CLUB: Cook, sew, and create! Build your leadership skills. This club provides chances to explore real-world applications of students’ skills, collaboration with peers, and engage in leadership opportunities. It is in room 303 (Ms. Sandoval) every other Tuesday from 3:30-5:00.

ALLY CLUB: This group is for anyone who cares about the Woodward community. Founded by Woodward Students, this group works to empower and educate others on what it means to be empathetic and strong in the face of anti-semitism, racism, gender equity, LGBTQ issues as well as other forms of discrimination. All are welcome. The club meets every Thursday at 8:15 in the library.

CHESS CLUB: The purpose of the WMS chess club is to provide opportunities for all students to participate in playing chess. All students are welcome regardless of experience. The goal of the group is to promote sportsmanship and the enjoyment of playing chess. This club meets every Friday at 8:20 in Ms. Newman's room (207)

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS CLUB: Join the campaign! Step into another world and travel through imagination and exploration with peers as you work together on weekly conquests. This club meets every Monday from 3:30-5:00 in Mr. Harris's room (304)

SPEECH AND DEBATE: This activity promotes the learning of speech and debate. Our goal is to create a safe space for learning speech and debate. It meets every Thursday from 3:30-4:30 in room 301.

Most photos are taken the same way—standing up, about three feet from the subject. In photography class, Ms. Dutton challenged students to break the mold. By changing the angle, shifting their point of view, or moving closer or farther away, students discovered how a fresh perspective can turn an ordinary photo into a work of art. |
Using our point-and-shoot cameras, students got up close with their subjects to create an artistic shallow depth of field!
By zooming in on tiny details—like a single raindrop—students kept their subject crisp and in focus while transforming the background into a beautiful blur. The secret? A wide-open aperture and a low f-stop, creating that eye-catching, professional look!

"Congrats Woodward track and field on your second home meet where you showed amazing sportsmanship, broke records, and made and moved up the Woodward All-Time Top Ten list. Our favorite moments were Woodward athletes cheering for teammates and new friends from Poulsbo as they sprinted down the homestretch, supporting each other as the high jump bar continued its upward rise, and outstanding javelin athletes lifting each other up as they moved en masse further up the All-Time Top Ten list.
Congrats to Ellie R on the girls' shot put record, adding to her javelin record from our first home meet. Good work to our boys' 4x400--Orion T, Finn D, Lucas C, and Connor J--who made the Top Ten, and javelin standouts--Luke M, Mahan J, Connor J, Lucy M, Ellora L, Evie B, Phoebe N, and Nora B--who moved up or made the Top Ten. Wow! And, Ellie R and Anders S both made Top Ten in high jump.

Over the past year, the Woodward community has been watching—and cheering on—a family of Ospreys nesting in the woods near our fields. After welcoming young last year, we’ve had the special opportunity to watch them grow from a respectful distance.
This week brought a bit of a scare when one of the juveniles fell during her first flight and became caught in blackberry brambles, unable to free herself. We’re incredibly grateful to the students who spotted her and quickly reported that she was in trouble, and to Westsound Wildlife for their swift response.
Their team carefully rescued the young Osprey and brought her to the wildlife shelter for imaging, care, and time to heal. We’re happy to share that she has recovered well and is ready to return home! She will be released back into the wild today after school—hopefully ready to spread her wings and give flying another try.
