Values in Action Deep Dive
Below you will find some wonderful photos from our schoolwide Values in Action Deep Dive,  focused on refugees. As part of this meaningful learning experience, students participated in an all-school read-aloud of Alone: The Journeys of Three Young Refugees by Paul Tom, heard from guest speakers who are refugees living in our community, collected hundreds of socks to support refugee families, and welcomed a Cuban refugee who is also an author and illustrator. He spoke at our school assembly and visited classrooms to share how art inspired his life journey and career.
A huge thank you goes out to our staff and PTO for helping make these experiences possible. Bringing real-world stories and perspectives into our school helps students build compassion, broaden their understanding of others, and see the world beyond themselves.

It’s Still Cool to Ride Your Bike to School!!
(Yes, even in middle school!)
Please remember that next Friday, May 15, is Bike to School Day at Woodward and throughout the district. We’ll have prizes for students who ride their bikes, and it’s a fun and healthy way to encourage alternative transportation to school.

State Testing Underway
We have successfully completed two days of state testing, with four more days to go. Thank you for supporting your students by ensuring they come to school well-rested and with fully charged Chromebooks. We truly appreciate all you do to help make these testing days run smoothly. The next testing days are Tuesday and Wednesday, May 12-13.

Have a wonderful rest of your week, and thank you, as always, for sharing your amazing students with us!

Warmly,
Jeannie Donoghue

The Woodward Deep Dive

Students were introduced to the art and experiences of Edel Rodriguez, enjoyed an all-school assembly to learn about his career, and heard from refugees within our community.

Values in Action: Ukrainian Refugee Sock Drive Update

A sincere Thank You to Woodward students, families and staff. We collected 1,039 pairs of socks to benefit Ukrainian refugees in Seattle through the Ukrainian Association of Washington. Thank you all for your generosity and putting your values of compassion and connection into a tangible gift for those in need.

Impact Report: Student Reflections on the Deep Dive

As part of the Woodward Deep Dive, we collect perception data from our students that helps us determine if we reached our goal of a deeper understanding and strengthening of our school values of Integrity, Connection and Compassion by learning about Refugees in our community, nation and world. The following results from our student post-test with our families, and based on the perception data collected, we believe we reached our goal!

8th Grade Banquet - Tickets and Volunteer Sign-ups!

Ready to be a part of the magic?!

Only registered volunteers can be on campus during the Eighth Grade Banquet—and spots are limited. Grab yours now using the link below. Prefer to pitch in behind the scenes? Sign up for setup, cleanup, or one of the many roles listed on the form and be part of what makes this night unforgettable.

All volunteers must be cleared (it’s quick—link below). Even if you’ve helped on a zone team, you’ll still need to sign up for a specific role (chaperone, zone lead, food service, etc.) to be on campus during the event. Zone teams will handle setup and cleanup, but we’d love extra hands from across the community.

Haven’t had a chance to help yet? Now’s the time! Not available? You can still support by donating at the ticket link—amounts are flexible.

And don’t forget—this is your final chance to purchase a ticket!

Bike to School Day - May 15th

It’s time to swap four wheels for two, feel the fresh air, and kick off your day with some serious energy. Whether you’re cruising with friends, racing the clock, or just enjoying the ride, this is your chance to start the morning strong.

Grab your helmet, hop on your bike, and join the movement because there’s no better way to arrive at school than powered by you. Let’s make this the best commute of the year!

May 9 - Free bicycle safety checks by Bainbridge Bike Company from 9-10:30.

May 15 - Bike to school and be greeted with morning snacks/treats and a chance to enter a raffle for prizes

Guidelines/ Reminders:
  • We STRONGLY encourage students to ride with a parent, friend, neighbor, or group.
  • Wear bright/ reflective clothing

Finish Strong - Push Through to the Finish Line!!

As we enter the final weeks of the school year, many middle school students feel the end-of-year slump—tired, less motivated, and very ready for summer. This is a normal part of the school year, but daily attendance still matters. Being in class helps students stay connected to learning, keep up with assignments, and finish the year feeling proud of their effort.

A few ways families can help support strong attendance in May:
  • Keep consistent sleep and wake-up routines
  • Encourage students to pack up and plan for the next day the night before
  • Help students set short-term goals (e.g., “Let’s focus on getting through this week”)
  • Check in about what they’re looking forward to at school and what feels challenging
  • Recognize effort—showing up counts, even on tough mornings

Thank you for partnering with us to support students in pushing through the final stretch and finishing the school year strong.

ABC's for 26-27 Now Open!

It’s ABC time! Please help us plan for next year!

If you know your student will not attend BISD in the fall, please let us know by contacting the school office, or by sending an email to: studentrecords@bisd303.org with your educational plan so that we may adjust our records accordingly.

Our Annual Back to school Check-in process (ABC) is now open and is available by logging in to your Family Access account. Look in the left menu and choose: ABC 26-27 to move through the steps to complete this process ASAP.
It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete the process for each child in your household.
This data collection allows BISD to gather information regarding your students’ plans for the upcoming year. Having an accurate understanding of the number of expected students helps us determine staffing needs, class size and building capacity to better serve our students. In addition to this valuable information, it allows BISD to fulfill its annual notification requirements for public schools in Washington state.

The ABC 26-27 process must be completed for ALL students in the district whether they are brand new to the district or returning. If your student will be enrolled in Running Start, the process must be completed for them as well.

*NOTE: For students with more than one family, ONLY the Primary Family will have access to complete the ABC’s. Guardians of Non-Primary Families will have “read-only” access. If this is a hardship for your family, please contact the school office for guidance, or send an email to studentrecords@bisd303.org. All families have the ability to make changes to their specific demographic information at any time via Family Access>Student Info>Change Requests link (in the top right corner).

TIPS:
  • Use a desktop or laptop computer (if trying to use a mobile device, open up a browser and login to Family Access directly. Or, depending on your device you may be able to choose the “Desktop” version of the mobile app for this purpose).
  • Use the “View Full Screen” buttons when available.
  • Each step has a “Complete Step and Move to….” button. You must click that on each step to mark it as complete.
  • Optional steps: PTSO and Bainbridge Schools Foundation steps are there as informational only. Donations are appreciated, but NOT required!
  • IF you make a change request that needs to be approved by the district you can still Complete the Step and move on to the next step.
  • If you think you have completed the process, but it is not showing as complete, look in the right column menu and look for the step(s) that do not have a check mark next to them. Click the link and you’ll either need to sign and date and/or merely click the “complete step” button….then Submit.
  • The LAST step – takes 2 clicks. “Complete ABC 26-27” followed by “Submit ABC 26-27”. As soon as you “Submit” you will get a notice and email that the process has been completed.
