Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies!

My name is Betsy Carlson. I started teaching in 1991. Over the decades, I have worked with students of all ages, from PK to 12th grade. Teaching middle school is by far my favorite age. I always say middle school is like black licorice: You either love it or want nothing to do with it. For me, I prefer spending my days with teens rather than adults, as every day is filled with laughter, learning, and surprises.

Ever since I was a young kid growing up in New York, I have absolutely loved adventure, hearing people’s stories, and learning about the history of our country. When I am not in the classroom, l am hiking in the mountains, swimming in salt water, traveling to historic locations, spending time visiting my family, or recharging by reading.
