From the Principal

Dear Woodward Families,
We have officially made it to Spring Break at Woodward! Whether your plans include traveling or enjoying some well-deserved downtime at home, I hope this break brings your family a chance to relax, and recharge from the busy pace of the school routine.

This time away can also be a wonderful opportunity to connect with your student in simple, meaningful ways—without the usual distractions of screens, schedules, or social demands. A walk together, a shared meal, a quick outing for a favorite treat, or even just uninterrupted conversation can go a long way. These small moments often become the ones that matter most, and time together truly is one of the greatest gifts we can give.

We encourage students to get outside, get some rest, and return feeling refreshed and ready for the final stretch of the school year. When we return, we’ll be jumping into our schoolwide Values in Action Deep Dive on refugees which you will be hearing more about. There is a lot to look forward to!

Wishing you a wonderful and restful Spring Break and thank you for sharing your amazing students with us!

Sincerely,
Jeannie Donoghue

Woodward Seminar

Woodward’s Seminar is one of Woodward’s social/emotional learning platforms where students participate in a 35 minute class and discussion every Monday. Seminar covers various topics that are connected to student’s social emotional health and well being.

7th Grade Seminar -
March 2nd- The lesson discussed consent - defined the term consent and worked to normalize and practice its use with scenario discussions. 8th grade students discussed apologies and specific attributes of an effective apology.
March 9th, 16th and 23rd- Students utilized their Monday Seminar time to dive into career exploration utilizing a program called Career Planner. 7th grade students took a Preference Survey which then linked to careers that aligned with their preference and interests. They then ‘dug deeper’ and researched the wage of their selected career and filled out a budget/expenditure worksheet that they used during one of the activities at the EXPLORE event which took place on March 26th. More information about the Explore event can be found in the March 25 WMS newsletter, and photos can be found below.

8th Grade Seminar -
March 2nd- 8th grade students discussed apologies and specific attributes of an effective apology.
March 9th- Students watched a video called “Just Send It’ and discussed peer pressure and technology.
March 16th- The topic was consent and relationships. This lesson built on the consent lesson from 7th grade.
March 23- The lesson was titled AI Chatbots - Who’s Behind the Screen? This lesson focused on why AI chatbots are designed to sound so human-like, and how this impacts our everyday lives, especially our idea of friendship.

The final lesson of the month on March 30th, both the 7th and 8th grades participated in the first lesson in a four part Seminar series titled Woodward’s Values In Action Deep Dive - A Reflective Values in Action Journey. (The Deep Dive). In this lesson, students reviewed our WMS values of Connection, Integrity and Compassion in preparation for growing these values as we explore Refugees in our Community, Nation and World. Refugees are the focus of this year’s Values In Action Deep Dive.

Please see additional information in the April 15th newsletter for a full description of the Woodward Deep Dive, an all-school, month long, Values in Action program.

Navigating the Future: Life After High School

Bainbridge Island School District is proud to present "Life After High School," a specialized event dedicated to our Special Education parents and the wider community.

Transitioning beyond the classroom is a major milestone, and we are here to ensure you have the roadmap you need. Join us for an evening of insight and connection as we explore the resources available to help every student thrive in their next chapter.

Event Details

Our panel of experts will lead a comprehensive session covering vocational rehabilitation, college disability services, and long term employment options to ensure a successful transition for every student. This event includes a live Q&A to provide the targeted information you need for your child!

Special Education Parent Survey

We value your feedback! If you have a child receiving Special Education services, please complete the parent survey. A separate ParentSquare email was sent out on Friday, March 6th with more details.

  • Note: Please submit a separate survey for each child you have in the program.
  • Questions? Email Maria Kuffel at mkuffel@bisd303.org.

  • Can you speak, read, and write in a language that is not offered at Bainbridge High School?

ABC's for 26-27 Now Open!

It’s ABC time! Please help us plan for next year!

If you know your student will not attend BISD in the fall, please let us know by contacting the school office, or by sending an email to: studentrecords@bisd303.org with your educational plan so that we may adjust our records accordingly.

Our Annual Back to school Check-in process (ABC) is now open and is available by logging in to your Family Access account. Look in the left menu and choose: ABC 26-27 to move through the steps to complete this process ASAP.
It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete the process for each child in your household.
This data collection allows BISD to gather information regarding your students’ plans for the upcoming year. Having an accurate understanding of the number of expected students helps us determine staffing needs, class size and building capacity to better serve our students. In addition to this valuable information, it allows BISD to fulfill its annual notification requirements for public schools in Washington state.

The ABC 26-27 process must be completed for ALL students in the district whether they are brand new to the district or returning. If your student will be enrolled in Running Start, the process must be completed for them as well.

*NOTE: For students with more than one family, ONLY the Primary Family will have access to complete the ABC’s. Guardians of Non-Primary Families will have “read-only” access. If this is a hardship for your family, please contact the school office for guidance, or send an email to studentrecords@bisd303.org. All families have the ability to make changes to their specific demographic information at any time via Family Access>Student Info>Change Requests link (in the top right corner).

TIPS:
  • Use a desktop or laptop computer (if trying to use a mobile device, open up a browser and login to Family Access directly. Or, depending on your device you may be able to choose the “Desktop” version of the mobile app for this purpose).
  • Use the “View Full Screen” buttons when available.
  • Each step has a “Complete Step and Move to….” button. You must click that on each step to mark it as complete.
  • Optional steps: PTSO and Bainbridge Schools Foundation steps are there as informational only. Donations are appreciated, but NOT required!
  • IF you make a change request that needs to be approved by the district you can still Complete the Step and move on to the next step.
  • If you think you have completed the process, but it is not showing as complete, look in the right column menu and look for the step(s) that do not have a check mark next to them. Click the link and you’ll either need to sign and date and/or merely click the “complete step” button….then Submit.
  • The LAST step – takes 2 clicks. “Complete ABC 26-27” followed by “Submit ABC 26-27”. As soon as you “Submit” you will get a notice and email that the process has been completed.

Hear Directly from Our Students

EXPLORE Day

Explore was a fun experience to do. It had many different components, and it was lots of fun. It taught us a lot about our futures and introduced us to life as adults. We learned what it was like to be an adult with a job, and we spent money on different things like insurance, cars, and houses. We looked at many possible jobs or career paths, and got to talk to real adults who have those jobs. Overall, it was an exciting thing to experience. We would love to do it again.

— Vivian Gray, Ruby Dennison, Elina Ausich, and Ella Bell

INSPIRE Day

Last Thursday, 8th graders participated in an activity called "Inspire" where they heard from different guest speakers. Each student was assigned two speakers to hear from in the morning to learn about their lives and careers. Afterwards, all students met to hear from our main speaker, Representative Nance. We found it interesting that so many of the guest speakers didn't have a set plan coming out of high school, but were still able to achieve so many great things. Their accomplishments and determination were very inspiring.
