From the Principal

Dear Woodward Families,
We’re excited for Woodward’s Career Exploration Day tomorrow, March 26, for both our 7th and 8th graders! It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to learn from a variety of guest speakers and begin thinking about future career paths.

To help make the day run as smoothly as possible, we kindly ask that students remain in their sessions whenever possible. If you do need to pick up your student between 9:00 AM–1:00 PM, please let us know in advance so we can plan to release them between sessions and minimize disruptions for both students and our visiting presenters.

A quick reminder for our 7th grade families: students will be participating in a career budgeting simulation that requires their Chromebooks. Please help by reminding your student to bring their Chromebook fully charged.

If you’re looking for ways to spark conversation at home, here are a few questions you might ask at dinner tomorrow:
  • Who was your favorite speaker and why?
  • What are three careers you learned about today?
  • What careers would you like to explore further?

We are incredibly grateful to our community members and volunteers who make this day possible. A lot of time and care goes into planning this experience, and we’re excited for students to benefit from it.

Thank you, as always, for your support and for sharing your wonderful students with us. Have a great rest of your week!

With Gratitude,
Jeannie Donoghue

From the Counseling Department - Explore for 7th Grade

Tomorrow, Thursday, March 26th, 7th-grade students will participate in the half-day event called EXPLORE. This experience focuses on exposing students to future careers while also bringing a bit of real-world simulation to budgeting. After completing a career exploration activity in their seminar class, students will utilize their top career interests to complete a reality simulation to make a month’s salary last as they pay for the various expenses in life. Students will also rotate through career exposure sessions including STEM Like Me (STEM professionals from all different industries share their experience and a hands-on activity), Video Game Design (learning about how a video game is built from the ground up and all the different roles that work together to make it happen), Kitsap Builders Association (hands-on activities highlighting a career in the trades), and a variety of careers within the Food Industry.

EXPLORE is a cornerstone of Woodward Middle School’s commitment to career education. As school counselors and career counselors we believe middle school is the ideal time for students to begin discovering their passions and envisioning their future professional paths. A special thanks to Lia Swanson, BISD Career Guidance Specialist for overseeing the organization of this event.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS for EXPLORE (Thursday, March 26th)
Parents, please remind your student to charge their Chromebook tonight.  Students need a Chromebook to participate in certain sections of Explore.

Also, when students arrive at school at 9:00am, please remind them to report to their 4th period class.

Thursday March 26 - Inspire for 8th Graders

INSPIRE is our 8th grade program, where professionals from our community and beyond share their career journeys and the paths that led them there. Students will have the opportunity to hear from four different speakers throughout the morning, gaining insight and inspiration for their own futures.

Supporting Our Students: Kids’ Pantry During Spring Break

As we near Spring Break, we want to ensure every student in our community stays fueled and ready for fun! Helpline House, in partnership with Bainbridge Island Rotary, is proud to offer the Kids’ Pantry program to provide supplemental groceries for local families.

Band Concert - Take 2

After a weather delay shifted our schedule, the bands took the stage and delivered an outstanding performance. Students seized the opportunity to refine and elevate their pieces, setting themselves up for success at the OMEA Band competition the very next day. If you haven’t experienced the energy and talent of our musicians yet, be sure to mark your calendar for the POPS concert on June 3 at 7:00pm—you won’t want to miss it!

Hygiene Drive

Hi Parents!
I’m Lily Criss, Vice President of Woodward Builder's Club, a Woodward Community Service Organization.
We want to tell you about our hygiene drive, which is running from March 19th to April 2nd.

For our hygiene drive, it would be great if you could have your student bring new women’s underwear, new socks, new children’s underwear and socks, and children’s clothing.
More possible donation items are shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, mouthwash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other personal hygiene supplies. Please tell your student to bring these items to their fourth-period classes.
Thank you for helping out your community and donating to our hygiene drive!
Thanks,
Builder's Club

8th Grade Banquet

Eighth Grade Banquet planning is well underway and our Top-Secret theme is generating lots of excitement among our volunteer parents. If you haven’t signed up yet, but still want to be part of the fun, there’s still time to join our team!

Please click this link to see the specific roles that we would like to fill this Spring.

Over 100 volunteers work for a year to transform the school. If you don’t have the time, but still want to participate, please consider sponsoring a zone, a food item, a student ticket or a prize, or make a general contribution towards keeping costs manageable for our community.

If you are a 7th Grade parent and interested in taking on a leadership role for next year's banquet and would like to start learning the ropes, please reach out to our event chairs Laura and Jen at woodward.banquet@bainbridgeptos.org to discuss.

Thank you to our many volunteers and contributors!
