From the Principal

Just a quick reminder that Future Freshman night is tonight at BHS at 6:30. This is for all BHS or EHHS students and families. It's crazy to think that we are already planning for next year! BHS counselors will be visiting our 8th graders the first week of March to help them register for classes. Woodward counselors will be working with our 7th graders that first week of March to help them register for 8th grade electives next year. Be sure to have a conversation with your students about their next year classes!

There will be a ParentSquare email regarding student walkout information for parents coming from BISD today. Be on the lookout for that important email.

Have a wonderful rest of your week and thank you for sending us your amazing students!

Jeannie Donoghue
Woodward Principal

Current 8th Graders: 2026-27 High School Info Night - TONIGHT

Future Freshman Night (BHS & EHHS)
Wednesday, February 11 - 6:30 p.m.
@ Bainbridge High School
All Class of 2030 students, parents & guardians are invited to attend.

The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the BHS main gym (Paski Gym) with a presentation from BHS administrators, counselors, and a student panel offering tips for a successful transition to freshman year. From 7:00–8:00 p.m., families may enjoy a self-guided campus tour, with teachers and BHS students available throughout the buildings to answer questions.

Students interested in Eagle Harbor High School are also encouraged to attend, as they may take elective courses at BHS and will benefit from becoming familiar with the campus.

Youth Needs Screener

As part of our ongoing commitment to student well-being and belonging, we will be administering the Character Strong Youth Needs Screener to students in grades 6–12.

This screener—along with teacher input and other data (e.g., attendance)—helps us better understand students' social-emotional well-being and determine if additional support may be helpful. It also allows us to assess the effectiveness of our Tier 1 Social-Emotional and Behavioral (SEB) supports within our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

The screener consists of 16 questions related to internalizing behaviors (e.g., “I feel worthless or lonely when I am around other people”) and self-identified strengths (e.g., “I am able to establish relationships with others”). Students respond on a scale from 1 (Almost Never) to 4 (Almost Always). Please note: this is not a diagnostic tool—it is intended to identify general trends and needs to ensure students receive the right level of support.

A team of district and school administrators and counselors will review the results and may implement school-wide, group, or individual interventions as needed. If your student is identified as potentially benefiting from group or individual support, you will receive a follow-up letter with the option to opt out.

The survey is scheduled to take place on Monday, March 2nd during Seminar. If you do not want your child to participate, please print, sign and return the Youth Needs Screener Opt-Out Form to your child’s counselor by Thursday, February 26th.

Lead From Within Group - Bainbridge Youth Services

Lead From Within is a six-week group through Bainbridge Youth Services for 7th and 8th graders starting Feb 26.

Each week includes creative, art-based activities along with guided conversation focused on understanding what’s going on inside, building skills you can use in real life, and helping to navigate middle school. No art experience is needed.

"I Belong Here"

This February, our attendance focus is “I Belong Here,” as part of our Show Up & Show Out campaign. We’re highlighting how strong, supportive relationships with teachers and staff help students feel welcomed, connected, and supported—especially during the middle school years, when belonging and peer connection matter so much.

Simple, everyday actions—like greeting students by name, checking in after an absence, and offering encouragement—help students feel safe and valued at school. When students feel they belong, they are more likely to show up, stay engaged, and build positive habits that support learning and confidence.
A sense of belonging improves academic outcomes, supports student well-being, and helps students stay connected to school. At BISD, EVERY student and EVERY family are valued. Together, we can create school communities where every student knows they matter—and that we are better when they are here.

Congratulations Woodward - 93% of students have attended 90% of the school year!

Wildcats in Action

Check Out What's Happening Around Campus!

Wildcats Thrive in AMC Math Competition

Founded in 1950, the AMC is the preeminent math competition for students K-12. Over 300,000 students in 50 states and over 30 countries take the AMC to bolster their confidence and passion for math. This year the Wildcats, led by Mrs. Grindeland, showed what Woodward is made of!

A huge congratulations to all the WMS students who participated, and to winners: Frankie O'Neill (3rd Place), Alex Marinoni & Evelyn Purves (2nd Place), and Bailey Greer (1st Place!!!)

The Voice Between the Lines

Ms. Longridge's class enjoyed a visit from special guest poet, Amanda Williamsen.

Ms. Williamsen is a Pushcart Prize nominee, the recipient of a Judson Jerome fellowship, former instructor at Johns Hopkins and University of Alabama, and a founding member of the Bainbridge poet laureate program.

During her visit to WMS, students were able to learn more about the written word from someone who has been teaching in the poetry world for over 25 years.

Innovation in Motion

Our Pre-Engineering students wrapped up first semester by designing and building creative Rube Goldberg devices—complex machines that complete simple tasks through a chain reaction of imaginative steps. These projects challenged students to apply engineering principles, problem-solving skills, and teamwork while embracing creativity and persistence. Take a look at the impressive results of their hard work!

The Woodward Beat

NEW: Dungeons and Dragons Club

A new club has been added to Woodward’s impressive roster of clubs and activities. Dungeons and Dragons Club is a way for D&D lovers to play with fellow students who share the same interest. Students assign a dungeon master, who guides them through the magical world of D&D. D&D Club is a wonderful way to interact with students who share a love of the game.

The Dungeons and Dragons Club will meet on Mondays after school from 2:30-4:30. Come join the campaign! — Ruby Denison, 7th Grade

BINGO!

Recently, Woodward has started a new and fun tradition on Tuesdays. Created and kept running by 7th grade Woodward students, bingo at lunchtime has become a fun and exciting event for everyone to look forward to. As a fun incentive, winners during bingo receive a snack ticket to use during another fun tradition Woodward has, snacks on Fridays. This prize is funded by our generous PTO, and we thank them for making Bingo Tuesdays stay a tradition. — Elina Ausich, 7th Grade

Celebrating Black History Month

February is Black History Month! Woodward is honoring accomplishments, contributions, and history of Black Americans by sharing slides on Wake Up Woodward every day. These slides were created by current and former Leadership students. Additionally, Leadership has made and displayed posters to recognize and celebrate Black History Month — Vivian Gray, 7th Grade
