Danielle Warman

From the Associate Principal

Dear Woodward Families,
Over the past two days, Mrs. Donoghue and I have had the opportunity to meet with all students to review the Woodward Student Handbook together. We took time to teach students how to find key school information and we talked about some of the important rules and expectations that help keep everyone safe and focused on learning. A safe learning environment helps make sure all students belong.

If families would like to review the handbook as well, it can be found on the Woodward website. The BISD Family Handbook is also available online for families to review. Thank you for continuing to partner with us in supporting our students’ success and helping them make the most of their time here at WMS!

Sincerely,
Danielle Warman

Let's Treat Our Staff!

November Staff Appreciation
The days may be getting shorter, but that just means we need a little extra light and warmth! Help us brighten our staff’s morning on Tuesday, November 18th with some cozy fall treats to show how much we appreciate all they do for our kids!

Make or buy something to drop off, or choose an item from our wish list to send directly to the school — whichever works best for you! Click here to sign up!

WMS Yearbooks

A huge shoutout to Mrs. Gray and all our amazing yearbook photographers for capturing the moments that make our school year so special! Thanks to their time and dedication, this year’s yearbook is shaping up to be one to remember.

If you haven’t purchased your copy yet, there’s still time! Order online or bring cash or check to the WMS Office.

If you're not sure if you've already purchased one, email kgellert@bisd303.org to double check.

Builders' Club Food Drive

Builders' Club is hosting a food fundraiser for Helpline House from November 3 to November 19.

This holiday season, Helpline House needs extra support as they help more families in our community. We’re collecting food and household items such as boxed meals, canned goods, baking supplies, and paper products to help stock their shelves.

Students can drop off donations in their 4th period class. The top three classes with the most items win donuts! Every little bit makes a big difference for neighbors in need.

Signs of Suicide (SOS) Curriculum for 7th Grade Students

On November 18th and 20th in 7th grade science classes, Woodward science teachers will be teaching Signs of Suicide (SOS), a curriculum that teaches students about mental health and how to seek help if they are worried about themselves or a friend. SOS has been used by thousands of schools for over 20 years and is shown to effectively teach students about depression and suicide while reducing the number of students’ self-reported suicide attempts.

Through the program, students learn:
  • That depression is treatable, so they are encouraged to seek help
  • How to identify depression and potential suicide risk in themselves or a friend
  • To ACT (Acknowledge, Care, and Tell a trusted adult) if concerned about themselves or a friend
  • Who they can turn to at school for help

Students will watch age-appropriate video clips and participate in a guided discussion about depression, suicide, and what to do if they are concerned about a friend. Following the video, students will complete a brief depression screening form. This form cannot provide a diagnosis of depression but does indicate whether a young person should seek help from a mental health professional.  School counselors will follow up with students as needed and conduct brief meetings with any student asking to talk.

We encourage you to visit www.mindwise.org/parents for information on this program.  An announcement will be sent to all 7th grade parents/ guardians on Friday, November 7th that includes information should you choose to have your student opt-out of this program.

If you have any questions regarding the SOS program, please contact your students’ counselor:

Thank you for taking a moment to share your input as it will help shape future programming.
