Jennie Donoghue

From the Principal

Dear Woodward Families,

Hopefully your student has shared that they received a new Chromebook this week! These devices are designed to last well into high school, and with your support, we can keep them in great condition. Please review these important reminders:

  • Protective case and name label must stay on. Each Chromebook comes with a hard plastic case that may only be removed by BISD Technology staff. If a device is returned without its case, repair costs from the third-party provider may be charged to families. Barcode/name stickers on the Chromebook and charging cord must remain intact and should not be written on.

  • Charging cord stays at home. Please keep the cord at home so the Chromebook can be fully charged each night. The battery should last the entire school day if used for schoolwork.

  • Protection plan included. Families do not need to purchase additional coverage—insurance was included when the district leased the devices.

  • Personalization allowed — Students are welcome to add stickers to the case (not the Chromebook itself).

For more information on Chromebook expectations see the Chromebook Handout

All the best,
Jeannie Donoghue
WMS Principal

Woodward Seminar

Seminar - Woodward's Social/ Emotional Learning Platform

Each Monday, during 4th period, your student participates in Seminar. Woodward’s Seminar is one piece of our social emotional learning (SEL) education that aligns with the BISD Improvement Plan under the Health, Well-Being & Safety goals and priorities. The benefits of SEL are well-researched, with evidence demonstrating that an education that promotes SEL yields positive results for students, adults, and school communities. When students have supportive relationships and opportunities to develop and practice social, emotional, and cognitive skills across many different contexts, academic learning and performance accelerates (CASEL.org). For more information on SEL, please visit the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning at casel.org.

Throughout the year, we will highlight lesson themes that will take place during our Monday Seminar. As parents, we encourage you to ask your student what they discussed and learned so you can continue the conversation at home. Following are topics and themes that will be covered in September.

In September, the focus of Seminar is helping students find connections within their 4th period Seminar class. This will be done with icebreaker activities and connection games, and classrooms will set community agreements for Seminar. Lessons will also include information about how to be a Woodward Wildcat: attendance procedures, how to use the library, how to access your counselor and get academic support, and how to get involved through WMS clubs and sports. Toward the end of the month, 7th grade students will discuss the power of our words (both negative and positive words) and 8th grade students will review the terms bystander, ally and upstander.

Though this is not run through the counseling office, please feel free to contact Sue Constan, our 7th grade counselor, with any questions you may have regarding Woodward Seminar.

Game Day Guidelines
Our school district is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all fans. Please review these game day guidelines especially those impacting our kindergarten through eighth grade families.
  • Students in grades K–8 must be accompanied by a supervising adult. This is especially important for grades 5-8 as students will not be admitted to the game without an adult.
  • No re-entry once leaving the stadium.
  • No in-and-out privileges.
  • No outside food or beverages.
  • No student backpacks allowed inside the stadium.
  • All bags are subject to search.
Come out and support our Spartans this fall—see you under the lights!
